This COGNOS.INI related error message in the 8 series Cognos Transformer is really annoying. The only reason for that being that there is no need for COGNOS.INI file in the 8 series...
And even though the error description might suggest you need to get the connection string into this file, what you realy need to do is place the content into 'Installation folder\CS7Gateways\bin\cs7g.ini'.
